DAP Supply in Rabi Season: Ensuring Farmers Get What They Need

DAP Supply in Rabi Season

For the ongoing Rabi 2024-25 season, the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (DA&FW) has assessed the national requirement for Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) at 52.05 lakh metric tons (LMT). As of December 3, 2024, the government has made significant progress in meeting this demand.

Current Availability and Sales of DAP

The pro-rata requirement of DAP for the period October 1 to December 3, 2024, was 35.52 LMT. Against this, the government has ensured the availability of 38.27 LMT of DAP across states. During the same period, farmers purchased 29.22 LMT of DAP. Additionally, a closing stock of 9.05 LMT is available for immediate use.

Steps Taken to Ensure Timely Supply

The Government of India has implemented several measures to ensure adequate and timely fertilizer availability:

  1. Seasonal Requirement Assessment
Before each cropping season, DA&FW collaborates with state governments to assess fertilizer needs. The assessment is done state-wise and month-wise.
  2. Monthly Supply Allocation
Based on the projected requirements, the Department of Fertilizers issues a monthly supply plan. This ensures sufficient quantities are available in all states.
  3. Online Monitoring Through iFMS
Fertilizer movement is tracked using the Integrated Fertilizer Monitoring System (iFMS), an online tool that monitors supplies across the country.
  4. Weekly Reviews
Weekly video conferences involving DA&FW, the Department of Fertilizers, and state officials help resolve any supply challenges.
  5. Imports to Bridge Gaps
The gap between demand and production is filled through imports. These imports are finalized well in advance to ensure timely delivery.
  6. International Engagements
The government actively engages with DAP-producing countries like Morocco, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia. These efforts secure additional supplies to meet domestic requirements.
  7. Subsidy Support for Farmers
Under the Nutrient-Based Subsidy (NBS) Policy, farmers receive P&K fertilizers, including DAP and Single Super Phosphate (SSP), at subsidized rates. Additionally, Nano DAP is now available under the Fertilizer Control Order (FCO) 1985.

A Commitment to Farmers’ Welfare

The government has ensured that P&K fertilizers, including DAP, are both affordable and adequately available. Farmers benefit from proactive planning, strategic imports, and ongoing monitoring.

This comprehensive approach highlights the government’s dedication to supporting farmers and ensuring agricultural productivity during this Rabi season.
