Chambal Fertilizer and Chemical Limited (CFCL) is developing a state-of-the-art Technical Ammonium Nitrate (TAN) plant India at its existing site in Gadepan, District Kota, Rajasthan. The plant will produce 2,40,000 MTPA of TAN and include a Weak Nitric Acid (WNA) plant with a 2,10,000 MTPA capacity.
This project plays a vital role in strengthening India’s domestic ammonium nitrate fertilizer production capacity. Once operational, it will significantly reduce the need for imported TAN and help stabilize the local fertilizer supply chain.
CFCL awarded a lump-sum turnkey contract to Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T), which is responsible for engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning. Additionally, CASALE, Switzerland provides the process technology, bringing global expertise to the project.
CFCL has already secured all necessary statutory and environmental approvals. Moreover, construction work is progressing on schedule. Recently, the team added an extra warm ammonia feed into the WNA and TAN plants to improve efficiency. In addition, they provisioned space for future Low Density Ammonium Nitrate (LDAN) production equipment. These changes enhance performance without raising project costs.
CFCL expects to start commercial production in January 2026.
Once the plant goes live, it will deliver a steady supply of high-quality ammonium nitrate fertilizer across India. As a result, farmers will gain easier access to essential nutrients, boosting crop productivity nationwide. Furthermore, the project supports India’s food security efforts by improving fertilizer availability and reducing supply risks.
