State-owned National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) will help boost India’s fertilizer production. In a regulatory filing on Wednesday, NFL announced that its board approved joining a joint venture proposed by the Department of Fertilizers. The company will hold an 18% equity stake in the new ammonia-urea complex, Namrup IV Fertilizer Plant, in Assam.
The Union Budget this year outlined plans to set up the Namrup IV plant. The facility will have an annual production capacity of 12.7 lakh tonnes. This initiative aims to enhance domestic fertilizer production and reduce import dependence.
Namrup has a long history in fertilizer manufacturing, with earlier plants Namrup I, II, and III. The upcoming Namrup IV facility will use modern technology to improve efficiency and output. This project will strengthen agricultural input availability in India’s northeastern region.
NFL’s participation in the joint venture will attract key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors. This move aligns with the government’s vision for self-sufficiency in fertilizer production and regional economic development.
