Coromandel International Limited has announced a brownfield expansion at its Kakinada plant. With this investment, the unit will become India’s largest phosphatic fertiliser complex.
The project includes a new NPK granulation train with an annual capacity of 7.5 lakh tonnes. After completion, the total capacity at the Kakinada site will rise to 30 lakh tonnes per year. The plant will use modern technology, meet the highest safety standards, and ensure energy-efficient operations.
Coromandel is investing ₹500 crore in this expansion. The project is expected to be ready by early 2027. Once operational, it will reduce India’s dependence on DAP imports and support farmers with reliable access to high-quality phosphatic fertilisers. In addition, the project will help promote balanced crop nutrition in northern markets.
Why It Matters
This expansion strengthens Coromandel’s role in India’s fertiliser industry. It also supports the nation’s goal of becoming more self-reliant in agriculture and ensuring nutrient security for farmers.
