New Delhi, October 2025 – India, the world’s largest urea importer, is preparing for its next tender. This move will set the tone for international trade, as suppliers in China, the Middle East, and Iran adjust their strategies to shifting demand and ongoing price corrections.
Indian urea sales reached 2.7 million tonnes in September 2025, lower than 3.1 million tonnes last year. Inventories remain close to 3.8 million tonnes, supported by consistent domestic production of 2.5 million tonnes. Moreover, strong monsoon rains are expected to boost agricultural demand during the upcoming rabi season.
National Fertilizers Ltd. (NFL) closed its last tender on 2 September, securing 815,000 tonnes for shipment by 31 October. Therefore, the upcoming tender is drawing intense interest from global markets.
“India’s purchasing decisions continue to drive global urea prices,” said a senior industry analyst at FertilizerField. “With balanced inventories and the rabi season approaching, the next tender will influence producer strategies in the Middle East, China, and Iran.”
