Ammonia Plant Revamp at Thal: EPC RFQ Bids Due October 3, 2025

Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd (RCFL) is moving forward with its ambitious Ammonia Plant Revamp at Thal to achieve higher energy efficiency and cost savings. The revamp will be carried out under the HTAS Scheme, with Haldor Topsoe A/S (HTAS), Denmark, as the technology supplier.


EPC RFQ Released for Ammonia Plant Revamp

RCFL has officially released the Request for Quotation (RFQ) for the EPC contractor. Interested bidders must submit their proposals before the deadline of October 3, 2025. The tender is a crucial milestone that sets the stage for the detailed execution of this energy efficiency project.


Project Cost and Timeline

The estimated capital cost of the revamp is ₹1,308 crore, including taxes. RCFL expects to complete the project by July 2027. Once operational, the revamp will help the Thal ammonia unit remain competitive in the fertilizer market.


Energy Savings and Sustainability Impact

The Ammonia Plant Revamp at Thal is designed to deliver energy savings of 0.40 Gcal per MT of ammonia at current production levels. This efficiency improvement will reduce fuel costs, cut dependency on natural gas, and lower greenhouse gas emissions. The project also aligns with India’s national targets for sustainable fertilizer production.
