Bangladesh Approves Import of 1.30 Lakh MT TSP and DAP Fertiliser from Morocco

Bangladesh fertiliser import approvals have been cleared for around 1.30 lakh metric tons of TSP and DAP to ensure uninterrupted supply for the upcoming agricultural season. The government approved the imports to support farmers and maintain stable food production across the country.

The decision came during the 51st meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase, held today at the Cabinet Division Conference Room in the Bangladesh Secretariat. Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed chaired the meeting.

Bangladesh Fertiliser Import Details: TSP and DAP Consignments

As part of the Bangladesh fertiliser import plan, the committee approved three consignments of TSP fertiliser, each with a volume of 30,000 metric tons. Each consignment carries an estimated cost of Tk 181.74 crore.

In addition, the government approved the import of 40,000 metric tons of DAP fertiliser, valued at Tk 324.08 crore. These fertilisers are critical for crop nutrition, particularly during peak cultivation periods.

BADC and OCP Nutricrops Agreement

The fertiliser imports will take place under state-level agreements between the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) and OCP Nutricrops of Morocco. OCP Nutricrops is one of the world’s leading producers and exporters of phosphate-based fertilisers.

Through this agreement, Bangladesh aims to secure reliable fertiliser supplies at competitive prices while reducing exposure to international market disruptions.

Fertiliser Imports to Support Agriculture and Food Security

Officials stated that the timely Bangladesh fertiliser import programme will play a key role in supporting farmers during major cultivation seasons. As a result, adequate availability of TSP and DAP fertilisers will help improve crop yields and protect national food security.

Moreover, the government continues to prioritise fertiliser availability amid global market volatility. These measures aim to shield farmers from rising input costs and ensure consistent agricultural production across Bangladesh.
