Bangladesh Government Approves LNG and Fertiliser Procurement

The government has approved separate proposals to procure one cargo of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and 1,30,000 metric tons of fertiliser to meet the country’s growing demand.

The approvals were granted during the 18th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP), chaired by Adviser to the Ministry of Finance Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka.

LNG Procurement

Following a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Petrobangla will purchase one cargo of LNG from the spot market. The supplier, M/S POSCO International Corporation, Incheon, Korea, will deliver the LNG at a cost of $14.69 per MMBtu, amounting to Tk692.99 crore.

Fertiliser Procurements

BCIC Procurements:

1. Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO): 30,000 MTs of bulk granular urea fertiliser under the 10th lot for FY25 at a cost of Tk123.57 crore ($343.25 per ton).

2. SABIC Agri-nutrients Company, Saudi Arabia: 30,000 MTs of bulk granular urea fertiliser under the 14th lot for FY25 at a cost of Tk125.88 crore ($349.67 per ton).

BADC Procurements:

1. Prodintorg, Russia: 30,000 metric tons of MOP fertiliser under a state-level agreement at Tk104.31 crore ($489.75 per ton).

2. OCP NUTRICROPS SA, Morocco: 40,000 metric tons of DAP fertiliser under a state-level agreement at Tk280.56 crore ($584.50 per ton).

The approved procurements aim to support the agricultural and energy sectors, ensuring stable supply and meeting national demands.
