📰 India Fertilizer News Third Week September 2025 Report

The India fertilizer news third week September 2025 reflects sharp contrasts in the market. Urea shortages created protests in key states, while phosphate supplies such as DAP remained comfortable. Policy actions, imports, and upcoming plant restarts shaped the week’s developments.

India Fertilizer News September 2025: Urea Shortages and Protests

In the third week of September, farmers in Odisha’s Ganjam district protested against delays in urea supply. The issue also disrupted the Odisha Assembly, with opposition demanding urgent solutions. In Telangana, the Centre approved an extra 40,000 tonnes of urea, raising the monthly allocation to 104,000 tonnes. Meanwhile, RFCL announced a restart of operations, expected to deliver ~60,000 tonnes of urea in late September. Despite these steps, the demand–supply gap remained a concern.

DAP Stocks and Imports in September 2025

Unlike nitrogen, DAP supplies were strong. According to Argus, India’s DAP stocks stood at 2.2 million tonnes at the start of September 2025. Imports in August reached 1.02 million tonnes, the highest since mid-2023. Domestic production also added ~318,000 tonnes in August. However, higher DAP prices pushed many farmers to shift temporarily toward NP fertilizers.

Policy and Subsidy Actions in Fertilizer Sector

Policy measures gained focus alongside supply adjustments. The SECI green ammonia tender awarded contracts for 724,000 tonnes per year of renewable ammonia to fertilizer producers under 10-year deals. This marks India’s push toward low-carbon inputs, though it won’t resolve immediate shortages. Meanwhile, the NITI Aayog’s DMEO began reviewing fertilizer subsidy schemes worth ₹1.77 lakh crore to improve efficiency and delivery.

Outlook for India Fertilizer Market September 2025

The India fertilizer news September 2025 signals that short-term urea shortages may continue in some districts until production restarts stabilize. DAP is likely to remain stable due to strong stocks and imports. Over the next quarter, localized supply gaps could ease, but structural reforms and long-term green ammonia projects will define India’s fertilizer landscape in the coming years.
