India fertilizer supply currently remains adequate to meet farmers’ demand. However, a prolonged conflict in West Asia could create challenges for upcoming crop seasons.
Officials from Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore Limited (FACT) said the company is confident about maintaining supply if global disruptions remain limited.
FACT is the largest fertilizer supplier to several South Indian states and plays a key role in ensuring fertilizer availability for farmers.
India Fertilizer Supply Supported by FACT Stockpiles
According to company officials, India fertilizer supply is currently supported by adequate raw material stockpiles.
FACT imports key raw materials such as:
Rock phosphate
Phosphoric acid
These materials mainly come from countries in West Asia and the Middle East and are transported through sea routes.
Industry analysts warn that the ongoing conflict could affect global supply chains if tensions escalate further.
FACT Assures No Immediate Production Disruption
S. Sakthimani, Managing Director of FACT, said there is no immediate cause for concern regarding fertilizer production in India.
He stated that the company currently has sufficient urea supplies and expects the conflict situation to stabilize soon.
Sakthimani said the gas supply line used for fertilizer production is operating normally and has not been affected by the conflict so far.
Rabi Crop Could Face Risk if Conflict Continues
However, officials warned that a prolonged conflict lasting six months could affect fertilizer availability for the next crop cycle.
Sakthimani noted that if the situation continues, the Rabi crop season could face potential supply challenges.
The company has started taking precautionary steps to manage possible disruptions.
Government Secures DAP and DSP Fertilizer Stocks
FACT officials also highlighted that companies in India source gas from both the Middle East and Australia.
The central government has also secured stocks of key fertilizers, including:
Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP)
Double Super Phosphate (DSP)
This move is expected to ensure stable fertilizer availability across the country.
FACT Maintains Strong Fertilizer Inventory
According to another senior FACT official, the company currently holds around 1.4 lakh metric tons of fertilizer stocks.
The company also has sufficient raw material reserves to produce 1.5 lakh metric tons of fertilizers between March and April 2026.
FACT expects to maintain uninterrupted fertilizer supply for the 2026–27 Kharif season, provided there are no further disruptions in the global supply chain.
