India Jordan Fertilizer Trade Set for Major Expansion

India Jordan fertilizer trade

India Jordan fertilizer trade is expected to strengthen significantly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed doubling bilateral trade to USD 5 billion within five years. The proposal highlights fertilizers as a key area of cooperation alongside energy, defence, and infrastructure.

The discussion took place during high-level engagements aimed at deepening economic ties between the two countries. As a result, fertilizers and agriculture have emerged as strategic priorities in the India–Jordan partnership.

India Jordan Fertilizer Trades Linked to Broader Economic Cooperation

Both sides agreed to enhance collaboration across multiple sectors. These include trade and investment, defence and security, renewable energy, fertilizers and agriculture, digital technologies, critical minerals, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals.

Addressing the India–Jordan Business Forum, King Abdullah II of Jordan said Jordan’s Free Trade Agreements and India’s economic scale could work together. According to him, this cooperation could create an economic corridor connecting South Asia with West Asia and beyond.

Fertilizer Cooperation a Key Pillar of India Jordan Relations

The India Jordan fertilizer trade already plays an important role in ensuring nutrient security for Indian farmers. Jordan remains a key supplier of phosphatic fertilizers to India, supporting domestic crop production.

Moreover, companies from both countries are holding discussions on new investments in Jordan. These projects aim to support India’s rising demand for phosphatic fertilizers and ensure long-term supply stability.

Strategic Benefits for Agriculture and Food Security

Strengthening the India Jordan fertilizer trade will help India reduce supply risks and improve fertilizer availability during peak sowing seasons. At the same time, Jordan stands to benefit from increased investment and long-term offtake agreements.

Additionally, India’s strengths in pharmaceuticals and medical devices, combined with Jordan’s strategic location, could position Jordan as a regional hub for West Asia and Africa.

Overall, fertilizer cooperation is expected to remain a cornerstone of the expanding India–Jordan economic partnership, supporting agricultural growth, food security, and trade resilience.
