thyssenkrupp Dangote Project Expands Urea Capacity
thyssenkrupp Uhde Fertilizer Technology (UFT) has signed a strategic agreement with Dangote Fertiliser Limited (DFL) for the thyssenkrupp Dangote Project, which will add four new urea granulation units in Lekki, Nigeria.
Under this deal, thyssenkrupp Uhde will provide the UFT® Fluid Bed Granulation Technology, a complete Process Design Package (PDP), and proprietary equipment such as granulators and scrubbers. Each new plant will have a nameplate capacity of 4,235 metric tons per day (MTPD), increasing Dangote’s total urea production from 2.65 million tons to more than 8 million tons annually.

Boosting Nigeria’s Fertilizer Output
The new plants will be built adjacent to Dangote’s existing fertilizer complexes in Lekki, which have operated with UFT technology since 2021. Each of those plants produces 3,850 MTPD of urea granules.
The thyssenkrupp Dangote Project will play a vital role in strengthening Nigeria’s fertilizer production capacity and its position as a regional exporter of high-quality urea.
Advanced Technology and Environmental Standards
The facilities will use UFT’s advanced scrubbing system, which minimizes pressure drop and controls dust and ammonia emissions. This design ensures compliance with global environmental standards.
They will also integrate Ammonia Convert Technology (ACT), allowing ammonium sulfate byproducts to merge into urea granules. This innovation reduces waste and offers logistical and commercial advantages for producers.
