Urea shortage Mahoba has triggered protests by farmers at the Devganpura Cooperative Society in Panwari block. Farmers accused the society staff of closing the centre early and denying them fertiliser. Many farmers returned without urea after waiting for hours.
The incident occurred on Tuesday as farmers gathered in large numbers to collect urea for their rabi crops.
Farmers Queue from Early Morning, Centre Closes Early
Farmers reached the Devganpura Cooperative Society at 6:00 am despite harsh cold weather. Soon, long queues formed outside the centre. Farmers submitted Khatauni, Aadhaar cards, and slips for fertiliser distribution.
However, the staff distributed urea to only a few farmers. At around 3:00 pm, employees closed the centre and left. As a result, most farmers failed to receive fertiliser.
Angry farmers accused the staff of arbitrary behaviour and staged a protest at the premises.
Urea Shortage Mahoba Raises Crop Loss Fears
Farmers Prem Kumar, Vivek, and Shobharani said the urea shortage Mahoba could damage their rabi crops. They stated that urea stock is available at the society but officials are not distributing it properly.
Farmers warned that delays could reduce crop yields and increase financial stress. Following the protest, police arrived at the spot and calmed the crowd. Officers assured farmers that distribution would resume the next day.
Administration Assures Timely Fertiliser Distribution
SDM Kulpahar Pradeep Kumar said authorities will distribute urea on Wednesday. He urged farmers to maintain peace and promised fertiliser distribution as per government rules.
Officials said the administration is monitoring the situation closely to avoid further disruption.
