The Atlas Agro Richland Project took a major step forward after the company secured a $250,000 option to purchase 275 acres of land in north Richland. Atlas Agro North America plans to study the property over the next year to determine whether it can host a cluster of high-power data centers alongside its Pacific Green Fertilizer Plant.
Atlas Agro Richland Project: Land, Cost & Location
Under the agreement approved by the Richland City Council on Dec. 2, Atlas Agro holds the right to buy the land for approximately $24 million. The site lies along Horn Rapids Road near Framatome and borders the planned fertilizer facility.
The property was transferred in 2016 by the U.S. Department of Energy to support long-term economic diversification in the region.
Power Demand Tied to Atlas Agro Richland Project
Both the fertilizer plant and data center campus will rely on a 1,300-megawatt interconnection to be built by Bonneville Power Administration and funded by Atlas. The power load could support:
| Facility | Estimated Power Need |
|---|---|
| Data Center Campus | ~350 MW |
| Fertilizer Plant | 300+ MW |
For context, the entire city of Richland averages 100 MW, peaking near 200 MW.
Future Development Costs & Job Potential
If Atlas moves forward, the data center plan calls for five buildings, totaling 500,000 square feet and costing about $500 million. The project could generate 100 jobs once operational.
The investment strategy has gained importance after Atlas lost $157 million in federal funding when recent budget cuts eliminated previously awarded green-energy support.
