Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited the Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL) in Namrup for a detailed review. He checked the performance of the existing units and progress on the new fertilizer project in Assam.
BVFCL plays a vital role in the Northeast. The Namrup-III unit is the only operational urea plant in the region. It supports agriculture across Assam and nearby states. It also creates direct and indirect jobs. Sonowal said that a strong fertilizer sector is important for food security in the Northeast.
During the BVFCL Namrup Plant Review, officials shared a status report. They presented data on production, maintenance, and marketing. The minister appreciated their efforts. He asked them to improve efficiency and reliability in operations.
Sonowal inspected the upcoming Assam Valley Fertilizer & Chemicals Company Limited (AVFCCL) plant. The new project will increase fertilizer production once commissioned. It will help reduce dependence on distant suppliers. Farmers in Assam will get steady access to urea. The industry around Namrup will also gain from this investment.
He encouraged Team BVFCL to work with universities, research bodies, and agriculture departments. This partnership will help farmers adopt modern practices and improve crop yield. He promised full support from the central government.
Sonowal said Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants faster development in the Northeast. Projects like BVFCL Namrup and AVFCCL are key to that goal. He stressed that growth in fertilizer production will boost the rural economy.
With the upgrade plans and the new plant in progress, BVFCL Namrup aims to strengthen local employment and agricultural growth. The corporation is set to play an even larger role in future fertilizer supply for the Northeast.
