The Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) today approved several fertilizer import proposals totaling 2.20 lakh metric tons to strengthen national stock and ensure an uninterrupted supply for the upcoming cultivation seasons.
The approvals came during the 46th CCGP meeting, held at the Cabinet Division Conference Room with Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed presiding.
The committee cleared the purchase of 30,000 metric tons of bagged granular urea from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO) under the 9th lot for FY 2025โ26. The Industries Ministry submitted the proposal, valued at Tk 143.30 crore, with a per-ton price of US$389.
In another decision, the committee approved the import of 40,000 metric tons of bulk granular urea from SABIC Agri-nutrients Company, Saudi Arabia, also under the 9th lot. This consignment will cost Tk 194.55 crore, with a per-ton price of US$396.41. Officials said this shipment will help maintain buffer stocks during periods of high agricultural demand.
The meeting also approved several major consignments of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer under proposals from the Agriculture Ministry and routed through the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).
Approved DAP imports include:
40,000 metric tons under the 7th lot from Banyan International Trading Limited, China, costing Tk 350.59 crore at US$713.75 per ton.
40,000 metric tons under the 11th lot from MA’ADEN, Saudi Arabia, costing Tk 350.22 crore at US$713 per ton.
40,000 metric tons under the 12th (Optional-1) lot, also from MA’ADEN, valued at Tk 350.22 crore, with the same per-ton rate of US$713.
The committee also approved the import of 30,000 metric tons of Triple Super Phosphate (TSP) from OCP Nutricrops, Morocco, under the 13th lot. This procurement, proposed by BADC, amounts to Tk 190.09 crore, with a per-ton price of US$516.
Officials noted that the combined imports will significantly strengthen national fertilizer reserves, ensure uninterrupted supply to farmers, and support agricultural productivity during key planting periods.
They added that the approvals align with the governmentโs broader strategy to stabilize input markets and safeguard food security amid global supply uncertainties.
