Cinis Fertilizer removes operational goal and initiates strategic review

Cinis Fertilizer strategic review

The board and management of Cinis Fertilizer have decided to remove the current target of reaching a production rate of 100,000 tons of potassium sulfate by the end of the year.
This decision follows an assessment showing that the planned improvement measures will need more time and capital than initially estimated.

The board has also started a strategic review of the company’s operations to explore ways to secure activities at its production facility in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden.
The review also includes evaluating financing opportunities for projects at other locations that involve processing sodium chloride into sodium hydroxide, a key material in battery production.
This assessment will cover financing options, possible collaborations, and potential asset sales.

In September 2025, Cinis Fertilizer produced around 5,000 tons of water-soluble potassium sulfate at the Örnsköldsvik facility.
The output was 10% lower than in August.
During the month, the company implemented several planned improvement measures while continuing to test methods to increase production.
However, Cinis Fertilizer now estimates that without further investment, production will not reach the earlier announced annual rate of 100,000 tons.

As a result, the company has launched a strategic review focused on raising capital to secure funding for operations and investments needed to achieve long-term production goals.

“Cinis Fertilizer has an underlying viable business, and we have overcome several challenges — including failed deliveries of residual flows and deficiencies in supplied equipment — though with lower revenues than planned,” said Jakob Liedberg, CEO and founder of Cinis Fertilizer AB.
“In recent months, we have seen price pressure in the market and are implementing multiple counter-measures, alongside improved production efficiency, to strengthen profitability. We are also in discussions with several industrial partners for sodium sulfate supply to potential future facilities. These partners include leading battery manufacturers, chemical industries, and pulp mills in Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia.”

Cinis Fertilizer expects to provide an update on the strategic review by the end of 2025.
