QatarEnergy Marketing has sharply increased its Qatar Sulphur Price (QSP) for December to $495/t FOB, a jump of $95/t compared with the $400/t FOB Ras Laffan/Mesaieed set for November.
At current freight rates, the revised December Qatar Sulphur Price translates to a delivered price of $517–521/t CFR China. Freight to south China was assessed on 27 November at $22–24/t, while rates to Chinese river ports were $24–26/t for a 30,000–35,000 t cargo.
This latest increase pushes the December QSP above the previous record high reached during the commodity price surge in July 2022, when sulphur hit $490/t FOB. That peak was followed by a rapid collapse to $77/t FOB in August 2022, marking one of the sharpest declines in the sulphur market.
