The GSFC Managing Director appointment marks a key leadership update at Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited. The company has approved the appointment of Dr. Rajender Kumar, IAS, as its new Managing Director, strengthening GSFC’s leadership with extensive administrative and policy experience.
The Nomination and Remuneration Committee (NRC) of GSFC cleared the appointment at its meeting held on January 6, 2026, and recommended it for approval by the company’s Board. The company informed both stock exchanges about the development on the same day
Experienced IAS Officer Takes Charge at GSFC
Dr. Rajender Kumar is a 2004-batch IAS officer of the Gujarat cadre with over 20 years of experience in public administration, policy formulation, and governance. He brings strong leadership credentials gained across district, state, national, and international roles.
During his career, he has served as District Development Officer in Bharuch and Ahmedabad, and as Collector and District Magistrate of Rajkot and Surat. In these roles, he worked on improving public service delivery, education, healthcare outcomes, sanitation, and disaster management systems
Key Role in Central Government and Global Institutions
Between 2016 and 2021, Dr. Kumar worked at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) as Director, contributing to major national initiatives such as Swachh Bharat Mission, Smart Cities Mission, PMAY, Ayushman Bharat, and the National Education Policy 2020.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, he acted as the central coordinating authority for health, leading empowered groups on medical management and logistics. He also played a key role in shaping India’s vaccine strategy and Vaccine Maitri program
From 2021 to 2024, he served as an Advisor on the Board of the World Bank and as a Council Member of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), representing India and neighboring countries at major global forums.
Current Posting and GSFC Leadership Role
In July 2024, Dr. Kumar was appointed Secretary to the Government of Gujarat, heading the Tourism, Civil Aviation, and Pavitra Yatradham Vikas departments. Since January 2026, he has been posted as Commissioner of Transport, Government of Gujarat, while also holding charge as Managing Director of GSFC
GSFC clarified that Dr. Rajender Kumar is not related to any Director or Key Managerial Personnel of the company.
