Engro Fertilizers Gas Allocation Raised to 105 MMscfd

Engro Fertilizers gas allocation has been enhanced after the Government of Pakistan approved a stable gas supply from the Habib Rahi Limestone (HRL) reservoir. The revised allocation will provide 105 MMscfd of gas to Engro Fertilizers’ Base Plant, replacing the earlier “as and when available” arrangement.

The approval ensures a reliable and continuous gas supply for Engro Fertilizers Limited, which is critical for uninterrupted fertilizer production. Earlier fluctuations in gas availability had periodically disrupted plant operations.

Stable Gas Supply from HRL Reservoir

Under the new approval, Engro Fertilizers will receive assured gas volumes from the HRL reservoir. This move strengthens operational stability and supports consistent urea production at the Base Plant.

A stable gas allocation is essential for fertilizer manufacturing, where energy availability directly impacts output and plant efficiency. The decision provides long-term visibility for production planning.

Backup Gas Support from Mari Energies

To further secure supply, the government has also approved a backup gas arrangement through Mari Energies Limited. If natural depletion occurs at the HRL reservoir, Mari Energies will supply additional gas from its Ghazij and Shawal reservoirs.

This backup mechanism will ensure uninterrupted gas flow not only to Engro Fertilizers but also to other fertilizer consumers. The step reflects broader efforts to protect Pakistan’s fertilizer supply chain.

Support for Fertilizer Sector Stability

The enhanced gas allocation aligns with Engro Fertilizers’ ongoing focus on plant maintenance and infrastructure upgrades. It also supports government initiatives aimed at strengthening the fertilizer sector, which plays a vital role in Pakistan’s agricultural productivity.

The development follows Mari Energies’ recent approvals to secure gas supplies for three major fertilizer plants, reinforcing coordinated action to stabilise the sector’s energy requirements.
